Lady Bruins Fight Hard, But Come Up Short

Posted Wednesday, December 07, 2005 by Tara Graf

The Lady Bruins played a tough game against Uniondale High School this Wednesday night. This was the consolation game in the South Side Holiday Tournament. The Baldwin team started the game a little flat, and seemed to retreat against Uniondale's pressure defense. The bench provided a much needed spark, though. They attacked back with pressure defense of their own and didn't shy away from the hoop. Melanie Gordon, Sharae Michael, Kelly Canham and Ali Johnson all added to first quarter scoring, along with steller defense led by Chanee' Brown. The Lady Knights were unstoppable from the foul line, however and countered the Lady Bruin's baskets with free throw after free throw. The second half brought about an intense fight by the Lady Bruins to pull themselves out of their hole. Shooting and driving by Adriana DeVito and Jasmine Davis respectively helped to get the Lady Bruins within 7, but that was as close as they would get. The girls put forth a tough front, and are going to regroup and get ready for their next game against Locust Valley this Saturday.
